Volunteering in a Childcare Center in Thailand

Volunteer at a daycare center in Thailand and work with three to five-year-olds in the poor, rural town of Trat. Based in a Buddhist temple, the daycare center is a safe, educational setting where children are cared for while their parents are at work. Youngsters attending the temple center receive Buddhist direction alongside general care, and the opportunity to gain an early education before they start school.

As a daycare center volunteer, you will assist staff with the children’s daily schedules, organizing fun, educational activities for the youngsters and encourage them to learn through play. Volunteers also teach children the basics of English for two hours each day, helping them develop their vocabulary and build this sought-after skill from a young age.

Formal teaching experience or qualifications aren’t required to volunteer. However, we recommend that you arrive with some pre-planned activities and songs to introduce to the children. Volunteers are also welcome to bring educational materials, such as flashcards, board games and books to assist with English lessons.
