During my stay in Kenya I have met so many wonderful people. I have made new and lasting friends whom I will never forget. My volunteer experience was at Coptic Hospital in the inpatient services and at the Hope Center. I did various things ranging from taking vital signs and giving medications to patients in the female ward, doing reception work for the Hope Center, taking HIV positive patients to their appointments with adherence counseling, social work, and pharmacy. I also accompanied a couple field workers while they visited HIV positive children in their homes to check on how well they were taking their anti-retroviral medications and how they have been feeling.

I have done many things in a very short amount of time and I have met some fantastic people. Everyone at Coptic Hospital and the Hope Center has been so welcoming and hospitable. The one thing I will remember forever about my experience here in Kenya is the kindness of its people. My hostess, Monicah, could not have been more helpful and charming. She is one of the nicest people I have met in my life and I have found her to be one of the main reasons I will make future trips back to Kenya.

During my stay here in Nairobi, I have been sharing a room with another volunteer from a different program. She asked me if I would like to join her in Kibera slums to help her throw a Christmas party for the HIV positive kids. Monicah and I gladly tagged along and assisted them in throwing the kids a fun-filled holiday party. While there, we played games and provided snacks. Later on in the morning, stew was brewed and rice was cooked for the kids to enjoy and have a full stomach of food for the day. The kids were so appreciative and had so much fun that I really felt like we did something significant. It was truly a good experience.

This past weekend, over Christmas, a couple of volunteers and I went to the Masai Mara for a three-day safari. It was a childhood dream of mine to go on a safari and I found it equally as exciting as an adult. Once I left Nairobi and was able to see the view outside the city I realized how beautiful Africa, and more specifically Kenya, really is. With its vast open spaces with mountains in the background was a sight only to be seen in Kenya.

At the end of my program, I left this report for uVolunteer. I hope it helps future volunteers have a good understanding of the uVolunteer program. I've also allowed uVolunteer to give out my email address to those interested in asking me questions about my trip and the uVolunteer program.
